Force Windows to Use the Classic Style/Theme Desktop
For those of you who still love the old classic look of Windows, make the following registry edits to force Windows to you the classic desktop. Use the “User Key” to change it for one specified user. Use the “System Key” to make this change for all users who login.
Location of User Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer
Location of System Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer
Value(s) to Modify: ClassicShell
Correct Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Data: 0= Default, 1 = Classic Desktop
If the “REG_SZ” value “ClassicShell” does not exist in the registry path, create it in order to make the changes.
