Brain Twister

You have 9 marbles that look exactly the same. One of the 9 marbles weighs more than the others, but you cannot tell by looking or touching. You are given a balance (scale) to help solve the twister. You get two actions to determine which marble is the heaviest. An action would be putting marbles on each side of the blanace and getting a result. You can do that twice. After the second time you must determine the heaviest marble. How do you do it???

Leave a comment and if you already know this one, leave it alone. I will reveal the winner.

    (1) Put three marbles on each side. If they are equal, go to section 2, if not, go to section 3.

    (2) Put two of the remaining three marbles on the scale. If they are equal, your heaviest is the one left over. If they are unequal, then the heaviest is , well, the heaviest one…

    (3) Take the three marbles from the heaviest side. Weigh two of them. If they are equal, your heaviest is the one left. If they are unequal, your heaviest is of course… the heaviest.

I love this stuff… What do I win?

Looks like Steven is the winner!! You get the privilege of knowing you are the man. I hope thats sufficient. I’m still trying to figure out if you are one of the Steven’s I know.

I’m a TSM major… I think I found your site from DrewPerry.com a while back, and I come back every now and again to see what’s up. I don’t think I know who you are (I’m terrible with names, so I might know your face), but I am friends with Robby who says he works with you (maybe?).

I’m a web developer, so I like to see sites from people from school with the same interest… oddly enough, I do web dev at work and for freelance jobs, but don’t have my own site (doesn’t add much to my credibility, does it?). I will build something one day, maybe.

It feels good to be the man.
